Ever heard of the saying “Live everyday like it’s your last”? It’s just one of those everyday motivational quotes that reminds us to be thankful for everyday and for being able to wake up to another day. We will never truly know when our last is, that’s why we should be living our lives with no regrets. That doesn’t mean that we can neglect our responsibilities, but be responsible enough to be able to balance them with things you enjoy.
Problems will still be problems unless we decide that they aren’t
Our problems will never go away unless we confront them. We can either let them haunt us everyday and impede our growth or let them serve as challenges for us to overcome. Taking considerations for potential problems that you will face in the future, it’s better to be prepared now and lay down the foundations on how you will solve them. When the time comes, you will be ready. Some actions don’t always need to be done immediately but it’s better if you can prepare for them. But if you planned poorly and it affects how you’re acting now, it might be better to reconsider how you’re approaching the problem. Take deep breaths, get some rest and relax. After having calmed down, go back into figuring out where it was that you have problems with. Make decisions quickly, come up with a few solutions and go through the consequences and decide. Reflect on what you have learnt from the problem
If you can do them now, why do it tomorrow?
Take action today. If you can do it today, then do it, that way you are 1 step closer to your goal/dream. Do the things that make you happy now and worry about the consequences later. It may sound arrogant to do so, but sometimes not planning ahead is the better option. Let your future self handle what comes after, be confident that you are not alone. You have friends and family that will help and guide you. Don’t be afraid of uncertainty because there is nothing definite in this world. You are only holding yourself back from enjoying and being who you really are if you do. Things add up however small they may be. So instead of waiting for things to pile up and do them once, it’s better to do the small things as much as you can. Be constantly trying to move forward however small the gains may be. Remember that small things matter and they are usually the ones that make bigger impacts.
Starting is always the hardest part
You might be putting off things for tomorrow because it’s too hard to deal with them now. It is especially harder to do new things than what you’re used to doing. But everyone starts at the same starting point, nobody has ever been an expert in any given field even before they started to learn and know about it. It also isn’t mastered in a single night, it takes time and effort. If it’s really that hard, ask for help from people you know. Not everyone would be willing to help, nor would most of them be staying until the end, but just having people you can count on makes it a lot easier to start. If your out of your comfort zone, your learning to take “New Steps”
Plan out what you want to do
We’ve been talking non-stop about acting now and seizing the day, but why are we talking about planning instead of taking action? There are times when charging straight head-on isn’t the best way to do things. You need to step back and assess your current situation. Let’s say for example you wanted to start your own business. Would you just blindly charge into the bank to get a loan and start a business without thinking if you can even pay back your loan? You need to plan out the steps that you need to take, but don’t take too long to decide on a course of action.
As George Patton once said, “A good plan violently executed now is better than a perfect plan executed next week.” Plans are there to guide you and not to be taken word for word as nothing in life really goes exactly as planned. Here are a few simple tips on how you can make progress towards your goals:
- Do one thing at a time
Let’s face it, in today’s society, everyone wants you to be able to multitask. There’s nothing wrong with that, but it usually ends up with you getting stressed over tasks that are left unfinished while the work keeps piling up. That’s why, plan on to concentrate and finish one goal at a time.
- Don’t be afraid of failure
Failures are a part of every journey. If you haven’t failed in something, then maybe you’re doing things wrong. From failure, we learn and that helps us get closer to what we want to achieve.
- Small steps count
Every bit of progress counts towards your goals. Don’t be ashamed if your progress is slow. Everyone has their own pace.
The fear of failing and the consequences of not being able to do a good job inhibits our ability to enjoy challenges and personal growth. The lack of acceptance from our peers and their disappointment that follows after holds us in place. We need to decide for ourselves, we need to prioritize our own happiness and growth for most of the time. Start doing things now that you won’t regret later, own up to your responsibilities and face the consequences.
If you find that you are procrastinating or sabotaging in certain areas of your life over and over there is a block or negative belief that needs to be cleared. We all have past experiences that stops us from seeing things differently.
